Almora is a region in the Kumaon division of Uttarakhand state.

History of Almora

Chand kings ruled here between 1500 and Chand kings shifted their capital from Champawat to Almora.

Almora was captured by Gurkha in 1719. Today, all the people of Nepal who live in Almora are ancestral to the Gurkha people. He ruled here for 24 years

In 1815, the British visited Almora, at that time they did not know about Nainital, the British developed much here, at that time, Almora was a region surrounded by dense forests with a cold climate.

The British made arrangements for building education, arts, and management here, and at that time Almora used to be a part of Pithoragarh.

In 1960, it became part of Bageshwar and in 1997 Almora became a separate district.

Almora is one of the scenic tourist spots.

From zero point here you can see Kedarnath Shivling, Trishul mountain, and Nanda Devi Mountain.

Almora’s education system is considered to be the most dominant in the history of Kumaon

Kosi river and Suyal river flows from the town of Almora.

How to Reach Almora

By Bus

By bus also you can reach Almora. Ordinary buses of Uttarakhand Roadways run from  ISBT Anand Vihar (Delhi) to Almora.

First direct bus runs from ISBT  to Almora at 8:00 Pm

Second direct bus runs from ISBT to Almora   9:00 Pm.

If you are coming from Delhi by bus, it will take  12 hours to reach Almora. If you are coming by 8:00 pm bus then you will reach Almora at 8:00 am.

By Train

If you want to come to Almora by train then the nearest railway station is Kathgodam.

The distance from Kathgodam railway station to Almora is 89 kilometers, which you can complete by share taxi, private taxi, or bus.

The fare of  shared taxi is ₹ 200

A private taxi will charge  ₹ 2500

By bus, you will reach Almora in ₹ 120

By Air

If you are coming to  Almora by Air, then the nearest airport to reach Almora is Pantnagar Airport.

The distance from Pantnagar to Almora is 116 km.

You can hire a private taxi from Pantnagar to Almora, which will be rented at ₹ 3500.

You can also come to Haldwani by taxi and then you will get many buses from Haldwani to Almora.

Deer Park

Chitai Temple

Chitai Temple and Jageshwar Dham are among the most famous and recognized temples in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.

Chitai Mandir and Jageshwar Dham, both of these temples are located on the same road, so you can easily walk around them.

While your tour to Chitai Mandir and Jageshwar Dham you also visit Vridh Jageshwar, which is located near the Jageshwar temple.

The distance of Chitai Temple is  9 km from Almora which is also known as Golu Devta Temple.

The Golu deity is called the God of Justice in Kumaon, where the people write their wishes in the form of a letter and hang in the temple, and when the wish is fulfilled, they again come here and thank God. So in this temple, you see lots of letters everywhere.

Jageshwar Dham

Katarmal Sun Temple

This temple is on the Ranikhet road from Almora and its distance is 17 km from Almora.

Bright End Corner

Bright End Corner is at a distance of 3 km from Almora and you can come here in the evening because it gives a very good view of the sunset.

Binsar

Binsar is a very beautiful place in Almora.

Binsar is a wildlife century.

Entry fees in Binsar in rs. 150 per person and rs. 600 for foreign tourists. Visiting timings of Binsar is from 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM

You have to pay rent for the vehicle also, talking about the vehicle, the charge is as follows:

Many tourists come here and for trekking enthusiasts, it is like a paradise.

In Binsar, after walking about 10 kilometers, you can park your car in the parking lot and from there you can track for zero points.

This tracking will be about 1 hour for zero point.

Zero Point is the place from where you will be able to see the  Range of the Himalayas very well.

Adventure sports are also done in Binsar. If you are fond of paragliding, then you can enjoy paragliding here.

For paragliding, you will have to pay 2500 rupees. If you are fond of cycling, then you can also do cycling here.

Charges are rs 1500 – 2000 per day to stay in Binsar.

Kasar Devi Mandir

Kasar Devi Temple is also a famous temple of Almora. To get here, you have to walk 100-150 steps.

This temple is very ancient. In 1890, Swami Vivekananda also came here and he did penance.

Due to the temple being in height, from here you can see the beauty of Almora and you can also see the Himalayas.
